Christofias himself has recently said that he doesnt believe it in 1 year..You shall be optimistic due to some datas...
If not it canbecome only a wishful thinking.. Read some newspapers.. |

Anka, how did you arrive to the statement that I think it would be a solution in one year?
When we are dealing with a country like murky Turkey, nothing is optimistic! I am hoping that TC's wake up one day (it's slowly happening) and demonstrate against the oppression that they go through, because of your country occupying part Cyprus.

It is written in your poll!!!
"How Hopeful are you for a 2009 solution?" Dont you read what you write or is it automatic in your propoganda to write something without reading!!! Second Cypriana, you are a conservative and backward nation in the world..You have 3 main conservative powers pullingh back one church second your backward rightists(diko) and third backward leftists(akel)...Noone can agree with these ones and you dont have the open mind to get rid of such powers.. Therefore Christofias himself is playing to cameras, proposing nothing new and confessing that he doesnt believe that there can be solution in 1 year..Lets see how patient the international community is with your nonsense..Do you think the world will wait you forever.. Third read some newspaper!!! |

I was the (40%) optimist. I find the possibility of failure too depressing for the long term political future of Cyprus.

why should two sides who are more busy waving the respective motherlands' flags want to come together again? Especially the GCs should ask themselves deep
down if they REALLY want reunion.

Why wouldn't we Eros? Would you accept 38% of Greece occupied by a bigger power?Especially if your home time is also occupied?

The fate of Cyprs does not lie ina few thousand Greek Cypriots but the millions in Turkey.

I said what I did, because for decades GCs say that they want reunion, but in many ways, they seem to have united with Greece. When Greece wins something, GCs
take to the streets celebrating. The RoC has the same national anthem with Greece. Many, if not most, GCs identify more with the Greek flag then with their
own. Maybe it is time to change the anthem and stop celebrating Greek victories as if they are your own?

Right. This is what I see in Cypriots everyday, since first days of my children's school celebrations(seven years ago). And I was wondering"What
Greece victories has to do with Cyprus and Cypriots." And Greek flag also gives me the same impression. Why really?
While I see Greek people who try to separate themselves from Cypriots and Cyprus. It happened that I asked one of them "so why Greeks and Cypriots are having the same language if there are no common history between them? And she answered: I don't know, their language is not Greek, They(Cypriots) destroyed our language. Shame. Cypriots must seek their own national identity. |

1. Under the Constitution the Greek or Turkish Cypriot can have their national anthem. But look at the flag, it was and IS accepted by many Greek Cypriots and tht was created by a Turkish Cypriot. 2. What Cypriots have in terms of culture which are uniquely Cypriot can co-exist with the 'Greekness'. Choosing the first does not mean that this should erode their 'Greekness'. We should not expect the Turkish Cypriots to choose to be more Cypriot.... this is just as bad as just being only Greek or Turkish. To undo over 3,000 years of Greek culture, religion (pagan first then Christianity later) or language (as you know Greek is spoken differently inside Greece as well as Cyprus) is a hard thing to do. The whole reason enosis started was for a reason.....it did not just exist in the spur of the moment. Even The Ottomans reconized that Cyprus was Greek and thats why they sent thousands of Ottomans to change the demographics of the island. 3. I said what I did, because for decades GCs say that they want reunion, but in many ways, they seem to have united with Greece. When Greece wins something, GCs take to the streets celebrating. The RoC has the same national anthem with Greece. Many, if not most, GCs identify more with the Greek flag then with their own. Maybe it is time to change the anthem and stop celebrating Greek victories as if they are your own? Cyprus politically does not act like Greece, Annan Plan is a prime example. In my room i have the Greek flag and the Cypriot one, we do not need Greek citizens telling us wich flag we should need or identify ourselves with. As for the celebrations, is there any reason why we should not celebrate? In 1821 we sent GREEK CYPRIOTS to fight against Ottoman oppression. They accepted us. We have every right to celebrate because we are a part of it. My opinion of course................... Ps. Most EU studies (barometers and survey''s and indeed the majority of political parties) indicate that the majority of Cypriot citizens and their political elites prefer a strong independant state (without the guarante of Greece) and the majority voted for Christofias. Maybe what you desire to see in Cyprus has already happened. In terms of culture Greek and Cypriot are tied, it is more complicated and more emotional and for that reason alone things will not change. Unless you can undo 3,000 years of Greek influence.

Sure, celebrate whatever and however you want, have the anthem you want and if you like, celebrate Greece's victories as if they are your own. I won't
stop ya!
And I will continue having to tell people abroad that Cyprus is actually a separate country, not part of Greece. |

Get the political and cultural dichotomy that I stated before and maybe you will understand.
Politically we are not a part of Greece, culturally we are , have been and probably will be. celebrate Greece's victories as if they are your own. I won't stop ya! Greek Cypriots were allowed in the ancient Olympics (only Greeks allowed right?) Let us use our brains, they were called Greeks of Cyprus. Greek Cypriots were involved in 1821, in the first world war and even in the second when they were defending Greece against Mussolini. Who can partake in the celebrations of those events if those who were a part of it cannot? When the Greek Cypriots fought against the British, why the hell did the Cretans come with explosives? Why did the Greeks of your beloved Greek state lobby so hard with America to make Cyprus one with Greece? You write about the present and at the same time ignore how we came to this point in time. For the sake of a solution, we want independance. No political party in Cyprus demands union and they do not want it anymore. However, we have millions of Turks that still favour takism. Your first post about Greek Cypriots finding what they truly want does not make sense. ---- The national anthem.... is Greek and? The Turkish Cypriots have Turkey's. In a democracy they can listen to it or not. Creating a new national identity to create a solution is a big task, it has to exist in the first place. In 1960, you know very well Britain did not desire a true independant country, Greece wanted Cyprus because the majority of the inhabitants identify themselves as Greek Cypriots and Turkey wanted the whole island because for them they used to own it before the British. Who has the energy to create a new national anthem when the Annan Plan offered that crap flag to replace the original one? Cyprus has had enough of colonialism and we do not need Greek citizens from Greece telling us to get anything 'new'.
