haaaaaaaaalllooo Yno!
brazen shameless young whipper snappa is what i am and i lov it !!! the new leader... hes been in the game for a while but not too long, he promised things the opposition didnt and has a lot riding on him.. i voted for him cause he resembles a down to earth politician, more so than others. Main promises are to pull trooops out of iraq, better education and health care lower the interest rates (which are freekin ridiculous here) and combat global warming with MR. Gore!!!!! The liberals dont like the fact that his party is made mostly on ex union leaders etc. they see anarchy on its way and the golden economy shot out the door... His wife is a successful entrepreneur and he drops his kids off at school (even as alpha primemate of australia... oops i meant primeminister!) hes just another fish to me Yno, they all are. What can we do, the greats hav lived and are gone and we're left with 'just add water and leave for 5 mins to absorb' politicians/leaders. we'll see how he goes though... peace. |

malliaros wrote: Mal, Australia's main 'contribution' is in Afghanistan where your noses will remain deeply imbedded in 'American ass'. Your new guy has no intention of reducing Oz military efforts against the Taliban/Al Q'aeda, as memories of your dead in Bali are still fresh. Thus, given your minimal contribution to the liberation of Iraq, and the fact that the situation is calming down there anyway, your new guy's 'intention to withdraw' from there was mere electoral 'puff'.

What I was trying to say is that, because of Australia's virtually insignificant military contribution in Iraq anyway, your bloke's promise to withdraw it from there was virtually meaningless in material terms and no more than electioneering puff. Now, had he said that Oz troops would be withdrawn from Afghanistan where it is more significant in fighting Taliban/Q'aida, that would be a different matter. He has not promised this, however. As I remember it, those captured Al Q'aeda perpetrators of the dreadful Bali bombing that killed so many Australian holidaymakers had trained in Al Q'aida camps in Afghanistan, so a suggestion to withdraw your troops from Afghanistan would not have been popular and therefore poor electioneering, gerrit?

Apparently half of the aussie public surveyed by a state uni dont give a +#%* who did what where asp...
Sydney University in July found that 64 percent of respondents were opposed to the war in Iraq and 50 percent opposed Australia's involvement in Afghanistan I stated before that we've swapped one fish for another and im full aware that this party is not only going to send more troops over seas, but support an offensive against Iran too.
